Features of explanation writing
Purpose: Explanation writing explains how or why something happens or how something works
Structure
- A general statement to introduce the topic e.g in the autumn some birds
- A series of logical steps explaining how or why something occurs e.g because hours of daylight shorten.( Body in paragraphs)
- Steps continue until the final state is produced or the explanation is complete.
Features
- Present tense verbs e.g many birds fly south.
- Connectives that signal time e.g then, next, several,months later.
- Causal connectives, e.g because so, this causes.
